When asked the question, “what is your biggest dream (or vision) for your life? Does it make you wonder how you’re going to achieve it? If it’s big enough, it will require the support of others. The list of people that have helped me achieve my goals and dreams is long - literally hundreds of people that I know and some I don’t know. Regardless, every person has made a tremendous difference in ways that I cannot adequately express my appreciation.

One thing that’s apparent to me - if you want to realize your dream, you need a team to support you. A solid team will support you in tangible and intangible ways. Here are few things my team does for me. My team...

...shows me possibilities of what can happen.
...helps me move forward faster.
...leverages my time.
...lifts me when I’m feeling weak.
...provides motivation & inspiration.
...allows me to focus on doing what I do best.
...provides companionship
...provides friendship
...is a sounding board
...gives and receives appreciation

With my team, I feel more empowered to be, do, and have anything I want.

Who should be on your team?

Life is not a solitary game, so who you associate yourself with can make all of the difference in your experience. Obviously you want to keep people on your team that want more from their own life and will support you in the achievement of your goals.

In addition, look for these 5 types of individuals you want to include on your team...

  1. A cheerleader - someone that inspires and motivates you - and looks for possibilities with you. We all need people to encourage us, cheer us on, and lift us up when we need a little boost. Some people naturally have that effect on us - when we are in their presence we feel motivated to live life to the fullest.
“Be strong, be fearless, be beautiful. And believe that anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.” - Misty Copeland

  2. A teacher/coach - someone that will give you feedback and help you learn more about yourself and the goals you want to achieve. We need individuals on our team who are willing to tell us the truth. It’s not about bringing you down, it’s about people who are willing and able to provide constructive feedback.
“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” - Brad Henry

  3. A therapist - someone that will be honest with you about what’s going well and where you can improve. Many people never ask for honest feedback from others. Truth isn’t discouraging when it’s delivered with love and compassion. Truth is clarifying, not discouraging. But a dream without perspective is a little more than pretending.
"Critique, feedback, reaction to one's work or the way they have presented it, regardless of intention, is a gift." - Mark Brand

  4. A connector - someone who can connect you with the resources and people that will help bring your goals to fruition. An individual can’t do everything. Successful people seek support from individuals who are skilled in complementary areas. Our team should have the same values, vision, and priorities, but each member brings a different master skill and temperament. As a result, the team accomplishes more than any individual.
"Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for you to reach the heights of your capabilities or make the money that you want without becoming very good at it.” - Brian Tracy

  5. A comedian - someone to make you laugh, smile, and bring joy to your life. The pursuit of your goals and dreams should bring you joy (if not, you may want to reevaluate your goals). What’s a journey that doesn’t include fun, happiness, and joy? Misery. I want to create a journey that's amazing.
“When you're happy you find pure joy in your life. There are no regrets in this state of happiness - and that's a goal worth striving for in all areas of your life.” - Suze Ormon

Regardless of your goals and dreams, a great team will make the journey more fun and fulfilling. The size of your dream will determine the size of the team you want to create. Connect with them, invite them in, share the vision, and enjoy the journey.
